Formerly titled Restaurant Week, Dine Out Boston is a twice yearly event that provides “locals and visitors an opportunity to sample area restaurants at special prices. Participating restaurants design prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner.” Basically, it’s a time where the restaurants you’ve been dying to try are affordable enough to visit. Among the over 100 restaurants, The Elephant Walk, Atlantic Fish Company and Aragosta Bar & Bistro are participating. Visit the Dine Out Boston website for full list of restaurants as well as to make highly encouraged reservations.

Barbara Lynch Gruppo, founded by Chef Barbara Lynch, is working outside of the Dine Out Boston network with their “Taste of the Gruppo Tour.” Like the official Boston Dine out, the Barbara Lynch edition has special prix fixe menus at special prices. Drink, B&G Oysters, The Butcher Shop, Sportello, Menton and No. 9 Park will all carry unofficial Dine Out Boston menus between August 17-22 and August 24-29, the same dates as the official event.

Unlike Dine Out Boston, “Taste of the Gruppo” has a contest. Similar to a customer loyalty card where the establishment punches your card with a fancy hole punch six times  and you get a free smoothie, if you visit all six restaurants during the tour dates you stand the chance to win a party for 15 at Drink.

Pick up your tour card at any of the six restaurants and keep it close to your heart. Every time you visit a Barbara Lynch Gruppo restaurant and order off of the special menu have your server mark your card. When you have eaten through all of the restaurants turn in your card at the last one you visit. Then there is nothing left to do but eagerly wait by your email inbox hoping for a message declaring you a winner.
